Start with the down payment

For any private vehicle, petrol, diesel or electric, NRB caps the loan at 60% of the vehicle's value. On a Rs 40 lakh car the most you can borrow is Rs 24 lakh; a Rs 5 lakh motorbike can be financed up to Rs 3 lakh. Registration, insurance and the bank's fees come on top. Details in the car loan guide.

5 or 7 years?

Most banks offer 5 to 7 years for a private vehicle. The 7-year EMI is lower, but the table above shows how much more interest it costs. A car also loses value every year, so a shorter loan keeps what you owe closer to what the car is worth.

EV loans

Private EVs follow the same 60% rule, and several banks run dedicated EV loan products, some on fixed rates. See the EV loan guide for the current list.

Frequently asked questions

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of monthly instalments. Nepali banks use this standard reducing-balance formula; your bank's figure can differ slightly because of rounding and day counts.
For a floating-rate loan, yes. The rate is the bank's base rate plus your premium, so when the base rate changes the bank either changes your EMI or extends the tenure. Fixed-rate loans keep the same EMI for the fixed period.
Borrow less (a bigger down payment), choose a longer tenure, negotiate a lower premium, or move the loan to a bank with a lower rate. A longer tenure lowers the EMI but increases the total interest.
No. It is pre-filled with a typical published rate from today's data. Banks publish a range from base rate plus their lowest premium to base rate plus their highest; your rate depends on your income, collateral and credit history. Ask the bank for your rate in writing.
