Grace period or immediate EMI?

Some banks start the EMI as soon as the loan is released; others let you pay only interest while you study. A grace period eases the strain now but adds to the total cost. Use the calculator for the repayment period after the grace period ends.

Repaying from abroad

Many students repay from their earnings abroad and pay off early once they can. Check the prepayment terms, and send repayments through a cheap channel: the exchange rate usually matters more than the fee (see remittance rates).

Before you apply

Most Nepali banks lend against collateral and need the admission letter and fee estimate. The study-abroad loan guide covers documents and timing.

Frequently asked questions

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of monthly instalments. Nepali banks use this standard reducing-balance formula; your bank's figure can differ slightly because of rounding and day counts.
For a floating-rate loan, yes. The rate is the bank's base rate plus your premium, so when the base rate changes the bank either changes your EMI or extends the tenure. Fixed-rate loans keep the same EMI for the fixed period.
Borrow less (a bigger down payment), choose a longer tenure, negotiate a lower premium, or move the loan to a bank with a lower rate. A longer tenure lowers the EMI but increases the total interest.
No. It is pre-filled with a typical published rate from today's data. Banks publish a range from base rate plus their lowest premium to base rate plus their highest; your rate depends on your income, collateral and credit history. Ask the bank for your rate in writing.
