Best Fixed Deposit (FD) Rates in Nepal — Kartik 2083
Deposit rates froze through Dashain: not one institution changed its 1-year rate during Ashwin. Base rates kept falling, though, which is good news for borrowers. Here is the ranking going into Kartik, and what to do before the month-start reset.
- Highest 1-year FD: 5.50% at Janaki Finance, unchanged from Ashwin. Narayani Development Bank is next at 5.15%.
- 2-year and 3-year deposits still pay 6.00% (Janaki Finance for 2 years, Pokhara Finance for 3), half a point above the best 1-year rate.
- Only one move all month: Corporate Development Bank raised its 3-year rate from 4.00% to 5.00%.
- Commercial banks: best Class A 1-year rate is 3.20% (Nepal SBI Bank); the Class A median is 2.80%.
- 12 banks cut their base rate in Ashwin, so floating loan rates are drifting lower. Check today's numbers on the live FD tracker.
Top 1-Year FD Rates in Nepal — Kartik 2083
Published 1-year fixed deposit rates for individuals, as of Ashwin 30, 2083 (October 16, 2026), across the 49 banks and finance companies Byajdar tracks. The ranking updates daily on the Byajdar FD rate tracker.
| # | Institution | 1-Year FD Rate | Ashwin 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Janaki Finance Co. Top rate | 5.50% | 5.50% |
| 2 | Narayani Development Bank | 5.15% | 5.15% |
| 3 | Salapa Bikas Bank | 5.00% | 5.00% |
| 4 | Multipurpose Finance | 4.75% | 4.75% |
| 5 | Nepal Finance | 4.50% | 4.50% |
| 6 | Corporate Development Bank | 4.25% | 4.25% |
| 7 | Central Finance (tied with Green Development Bank) | 4.00% | new |
Longer terms still pay more
| Tenure | Top rate | Institution | Market median |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 months | 5.00% | Janaki Finance | 2.85% |
| 1 year | 5.50% | Janaki Finance | 3.00% |
| 2 years | 6.00% | Janaki Finance | 3.40% |
| 3 years | 6.00% | Pokhara Finance | 3.50% |
The term premium that opened up last month is still there. If you can leave the money for two years, the top 2-year rate pays half a point more than the best 1-year deposit, and Corporate Development Bank's new 5.00% makes it the third-best 3-year rate in the market, behind Pokhara Finance (6.00%) and Nepal Finance (5.50%).
What changed in Ashwin: almost nothing
Between Ashwin 5 and Ashwin 30, not one institution changed its 6-month, 1-year or 2-year rate. (Central Finance is new to the tracker this month, entering at 4.00% for 1 year.) After last month's cuts at the top of the table, Dashain brought a pause. The one move was upward: Corporate Development Bank lifted its 3-year rate by a full point, to 5.00%, and its regular savings rate from 2.85% to 4.00%.
Banks usually revise rates at the start of a Nepali month, so the next window is Kartik 1 (October 18). If you are holding Dashain cash or remittance, a deposit opened before then locks today's rate for the full term; we will update this page if the Kartik reset moves the leaders.
Borrowers: base rates are falling
The more interesting movement was on the lending side. Twelve institutions cut their base rate in Ashwin, including Agricultural Development Bank (4.66% to 4.55%), Rastriya Banijya Bank (4.13% to 4.01%), Citizens Bank (5.07% to 4.97%) and Excel Bikas Bank (5.13% to 4.99%); only three raised theirs. A base rate tracks the average cost of everything a bank has borrowed, so it keeps sliding as older, dearer deposits mature, even while new deposit rates stand still.
Because floating loans are priced as base rate plus a premium, those cuts flow through to home, vehicle and education loan EMIs at the next reset. See how base rate and premium work, and compare home loan and vehicle loan rates.
Commercial banks: still two points behind
Among the 20 Class A commercial banks the best 1-year rate is 3.20% at Nepal SBI Bank, then Rastriya Banijya Bank at 3.15% and Himalayan, Laxmi Sunrise and Machhapuchchhre at 3.00%. For 3 years, Machhapuchchhre pays 4.50%. On NPR 5 lakh, Janaki Finance's 5.50% earns about NPR 11,500 more a year than the best commercial bank, before tax. Every NRB-licensed institution is covered by the DCGC guarantee up to NPR 5 lakh per depositor, so within that limit the rate is the main difference. Our guide to the four classes of banks explains the rest.
How to lock in the best rate
- Compare every institution on the live tracker: the gap between the top rate and the median is 2.5 points.
- Consider 2 years if you will not need the money: 6.00% versus 5.50% at the same institution.
- Work out the maturity on the FD calculator.
- Ask about senior-citizen rates, often up to 1% extra for those aged 60+; see senior citizen FD rates.
- Set a rate alert on the FD tracker to hear when a rate you care about moves.
Tax and safety in one line
FD interest carries 5% TDS with a PAN (15% without), and deposits are guaranteed up to NPR 5 lakh per institution by the DCGC. Details in our guide to tax on FD interest.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best FD rate in Nepal in Kartik 2083?
As of Ashwin 30, 2083, the highest 1-year fixed deposit rate is 5.50% at Janaki Finance, followed by Narayani Development Bank at 5.15% and Salapa Bikas Bank at 5.00%. The top 2-year rate is 6.00% (Janaki Finance) and the top 3-year rate is 6.00% (Pokhara Finance). The Byajdar tracker is updated daily.
Did FD rates change during Dashain?
Almost not at all. Between Ashwin 5 and Ashwin 30, 2083, no institution Byajdar tracks changed its 6-month, 1-year or 2-year rate. The only move was Corporate Development Bank raising its 3-year rate from 4.00% to 5.00%.
Which commercial bank gives the highest FD rate in Nepal now?
Nepal SBI Bank at 3.20% for 1 year, then Rastriya Banijya Bank at 3.15%. For 3 years, Machhapuchchhre Bank pays 4.50% and Nepal SBI Bank 4.10%.
Why are base rates falling while FD rates stay the same?
A base rate reflects the average cost of all of a bank's deposits and borrowing, so it keeps falling as older, higher-rate deposits mature and are replaced by cheaper ones, even when new deposit rates stay flat. Falling base rates mean cheaper floating-rate loans.
Is a 2-year FD better than a 1-year FD right now?
On rate alone, yes: 6.00% against 5.50% at the top of the market. The trade-off is that breaking an FD early usually costs most of the interest, so choose 2 years only for money you will not need.
